About Dr. Norcom
Derek F. Norcom, MD
Fellow, American Board of Family Medicine
Dr. Derek Norcom is passionate about wellness and preventive care, and practices medicine with a patient-centered philosophy. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Dr. Norcom completed his residency at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City - a private residency program focused on training physicians one-on-one with specialists. Hours in the emergency room and specialty clinics provided tremendous hands on experience with both acute and chronic illnesses. Specialty rotations in all areas of medicine were completed in an apprenticeship style that is often lost at some academic centers. A drive to become an excellent practitioner has led to hours of extended reading and conference attendance, including elective private and academic training in dermatology. He continues to ardently follow medical literature, subscribing to the most current data available to guide patient care decisions.
A passion for continuity care has led Dr. Norcom to reopen his primary care practice to a limited number of patients. His focus is on taking care of the whole person and all aspects of health, not just symptoms. Dr. Norcom is also very interested in the connections between nutrition, antioxidant supplementation, skin health, aging, and cancer prevention.
His personal philosophy of medicine can be best summed by a quote on the wall at Harvard Medical School which reads, "The best way to care for the patient is to care about the patient."
